The Mercantilism Rap Backstory
In September 2013, a class of Conroe High School students were assigned a project in AP US History. In groups of three, students were to create a video incorporating one of their current economic terms from class. It didn't take long for sophomores Jacob, Reed, and Brandon to select their topic of choice – Mercantilism.
Over the following two weeks, after late nights of snacking, lyric writing, and beat making in Jacob's upstairs game room, the infamous song was born! Next, the boys would travel to their local Woodforest National Bank in Conroe, Texas to film the music video. Surprisingly, with no prior planning or choreography rehearsed.
Finally, after all the hard work was over and the edit was complete, the three "yeah yeah yeah yeah swaggers" submitted their project to their outstanding AP US History teacher, Mr. Woodruff, and posted the video to YouTube.
And just like the class, the rest was history.
